April 2004 Radio Revenues
Radio revenue continued to grow in April 2004 with a 4% increase in combined total local and national ad sales compared to April of 2003. Local ad dollars also rose 4% for the month when compared to April from a year ago. National sales figures saw the largest increase with a 6% gain in April 2004 over April 2003.
On a year-to-date basis, Radio revenue grew 4% in combined total local and national ad dollars during the first four months of this year over that same time period from 2003. Local revenue increased 4% January through April 2004 compared to that same time period from last year, while national sales figures grew 2% January through April of 2004 compared to January through April of 2003.
“The positive results for April are encouraging, as we begin to see a strengthening in Radio revenues compared to last year,” observed Gary Fries, President and Chief Executive Officer of RAB. “Indicators point to stability in Radio sales over the next few months with increased acceleration in the second half of the year.”
These monthly totals are based on the RAB Radio Revenue Index of more than 150 markets. The accounting firm of Miller, Kaplan, Arase & Co. provides the local and national revenue data on the more than 150 markets RAB uses to calculate its Revenue Index.
