September 2003 Radio Revenues Radio revenues for the month of September were healthy with a 4% gain in total combined local and national ad dollars over the same month from a year ago. National continued its upward momentum with a 13% increase in ad sales compared to September of 2002, and local sales figures jumped up 2%
Third quarter Radio revenue also climbed 2% in total combined local and national ad dollars, led by a robust national sector that grew 10% over the same quarter a year ago. Local sales for 3rd Quarter 2003 remained flat when compared to 3rd Quarter of 2002.
On a year-to-date basis, the first nine months of 2003 grew 2% in total combined local and national sales figures compared to that same time period from 2002. National ad dollars for January through September of this year rose 8% over those same months from last year. Local revenue for January through September was up 1% over those same nine months from last year.
According to Gary Fries, President and Chief Executive Officer, RAB, “While the results for September are encouraging, consumer confidence at the local level is not progressing at the same pace that economic indicators are improving. Even though local improvement traditionally follows national trends in a upturn, the momentum for this recovery is just in its first stages."
