'El Cucuy' Leaves KLAX/Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES -- September 15, 2008: Renan Almendarez Coello, known over his long radio career as "El Cucuy," is leaving Spanish Broadcasting System's Regional Mexican KLAX (La Raza 97.9)/Los Angeles and daily radio to pursue building his own radio network. Almendarez Coello owns a station in New Mexico. Monday was his last day on La Raza.

KLAX has been home to Almendarez Coello's show for the last five years. In January of this year, the host began a TV show on Azteca America, Azte pa ca, and he'll continue to work on that show and on his work with the El Cucuy Foundation, and to develop talent for his record label, Michel Productions.

SBS said it will that, as of tomorrow, WLEY/Chicago-based El Chulo de la Manana, hosted by Joaquin Garza, will begin simulcasting on KLAX.
