Chrysler Launches In-Car Internet

August 14, 2008: Chrysler will become the first automaker to offer in-car Internet capability on August 25, Twice.com reports, as the Mopar cellular/WiFi hot spot joins the offerings from the Chrysler parts division. And with in-car Internet also comes, of course, in-car Internet radio.

The Mopar, made by Autonet Mobile, works with Chrysler Uconnect Web's EVDO cellular hookup, which converts to WiFi so several passengers can use it at once. There is no technical reason the driver can't use it, too, but one hopes (probably in vain) that most people have better sense.

Twice reports that the price tag is $499 for the Mopar itself, $35-$50 to install, and $58 in monthly subscription and service charges.
