Survey: Two-Thirds Of Americans, Canadians Listen To Music On PCs
July 8, 2008: About two-thirds of Americans and Canadians listen to music on a PC, says Parks Associates in a new survey. Television was also included among the "digital platforms" people use to hear music -- radio wasn't -- and about one-third of respondents said they listen to some tunes through a TV.
That puts TV about even with MP3 players -- as Parks Director/Research John Barrett observes, "iPods are sexy, but not everybody has one. TVs are ubiquitous and increasingly capable of delivering a range of content, especially with new features like digital music delivery and place-shifting services. This is just the tip of the iceberg for TV applications.
The survey also covered music listening on games consoles, which came in at around 10 percent; mobile phones, at a little over 10 percent, and portable game players, at around 5 percent.
The figures come from the larger "Digital Media Habits II" study from Parks, which talked with 2,000 American and Canadian Internet users in Q3 of last year.
