Icon is a world that sometimes that used to frequently to describe people in the industry.

Ron Ruth was a true icon in the radio industry. He earned it every single day as Radio's greatest ambassador. He did it with tremendous warmth, passion, humility, and kindness.

In an industry where huge egos are common, Ron Ruth symbolized servant leadership with humor and a common touch.

RIP- Ronnie

I met Ron my first day as a radio rep at WTMI. He was then GM at WQAM. We became fast friends thanks to our mutual fiends and troublemakers in the business. The past few years we found we enjoyed travelling together and managed a trip to Prague, the DR, Keys etc. But wherever we went he always made sure he could maintain contact with his buddies. Never has there been a funnier, kinder, more loyal friend than Ron Ruth. I miss him.

You could not look at that face and keep from smiling. There was a warmth that always came with Ron where ever he went. A passion for people and a passion for radio. Ron was a hug, a smile, kind words and a heart at the RAB conferences and more. He may have gotten a bit slower over the years, but I never saw him sit-except to eat...briefly. Now, I'm sure he's hanging around with "Radio Wayne" still chuckling and still with twinkles in their eyes.

First met Ron at R A B '95 and golf became our common bond, so much so that he & I organised the Radio Ryder Cup, U S Radio V's Irish Radio, we had such fun playing every other year Home & Away, in one Match My CEO John O'Connell and myself started speaking gaelic so he & Neil wouldn't understand us discussing tactics, He roared laughing and told us we didn't need to speak Gaelic because they couldn't understand our english anyway. What a man, it was my privilage to call him friend.

It is with heavy-heart that I learned of the passing of Ron Ruth. A wonderful friend, mentor and colleague that I had the pleasure to work with at RAB for almost 20 years - he was fondly my "uncle Ronnie" as he called me "auntie Gail". Always made me laugh with his jokes and antics. You will be missed, but the memories will last a lifetime. RIP "Uncle"

Ron's passing made me think of all the conventions and meetings we spent together at RAB. What a wonderful combination of wit, experience, kindness, brains and sarcasm! Ron, Gary Fries and Radio Wayne Cornils were a powerful threesome that took RAB to new heights (and had way big fun doing it!) What a good guy.
