One other danger of the manager doing all the selling is that the sales people never learn to do it for themselves.

I've seen some managers that were great sales people, but instead of training great sales reps, they preferred to "ride along" with the rep and do all the selling. Sure, you can learn by watching, but sooner or later the sales rep will become dependent on someone else to do the selling for them.
