Radio, audio-only entertainment, is still a great medium, but I have absolutely no confidence in those ratings that are cited as evidence that all is well. At best, PPM takes radio from the Stone Age to the Bronze Age.

Yes, Lisa is very wrong, but the question is "who's fault is that." The fault lies in the leadership of the radio business. We do a piss poor job selling our industry. Who's the strong voice? Pittman? Hogan? Laughable as he's probably responsible for more perceptual damage to the industry than any person alive. If you have the video of the guy who won your Radio Wayne Broadcaster of the year award, post it. His facts were astounding and gave me pride. Maybe that will open Lisa's eyes

Do your homework before you make unfounded ignorant claims. Arbitron RADAR # 90,102,114 9/2006, 9/2009, 9/2012 states Radio listening M-SU 24 hour 12+ at 242 Million in 2012, up 2.7Million from 2009 and up 5.1 Million from 2006. Radio reaches the masses more effectivly and more efficiently than any media known to man!

Lisa-- I hope you don't take that as a blanket approach to your media buying. I've been in radio for nearly 30 years, and the station I work at now has a stronger response than I've ever seen before. We provide lots of local content that folks can't get anywhere else, and guess what, it works!

However, I've seen too many media buyers who are too lazy too really learn about the markets they buy. It takes time and work to find out what works in each local market, but your clients will notice!

Radio, particularly music radio, gets no respect because we fail to earn the respect.
In what other medium is there such low-grade service - superficiality, dumbed-down personalities and shoddy, insulting, commercial production....?
It's not that there are no ears out here to hear. It's that hardly anybody is actually listening.
Still, the suits will gather and the circle-jerk will commence.

Go to Check the study done on radio listening for CHR and AC. The study is only about 4 months old.

"More people listen to radio than ever before." Really? Standing in front of this group of professionals and lying about your industry does not give it more credibility or earn respect. Show me where more people listen to radio today or there's more total radio listening than 10, 20 or 30 years ago. Maybe if you add satellite and pandora to am/fm you can come close, but I don't think he was only referring to am/fm.
