@Atticus: A "hyper-regulatory loon?" In the Obama Administration? An administration so centrist its afraid of its own shadow?

Please, don't make me laugh.

And you *DO* know that using a cell phone while driving is objectively more dangerous an impairment than driving while drunk, don't you?

Diane, would you like to legislate away every possible danger in society? I guess that means we need to make a law against driving while intoxicated, 10,228 died in alcohol related crashes in 2010. Maybe legislate a breathalyzer in every car? I wonder how many coffee or cigarette related crashes we could prevent by taking out cup holders and ashtrays? How about a soundproof box for pets and children to ride in too?? Get realistic will ya!?

While I am not big on government regulation of my personal life, the rest of us need to be protected from those who are too stupid to live. I was rear ended by a girl who was too busy texting to put her foot on the brake pedal. Driving around Houston, looking at other drivers, at least 75% of them are on the phone. I've avoided accidents only by being hyper-alert, and leaving my cell phone at home.

Pleaaazzzeee. Radio's have been in cars as long as I can remember. The government seriously needs to get out of my car! I agree that texting, talking on the phone, eating, drinking, smoking etc are all driver distractions....but isn't it time that individuals become responsible for their own actions? You can't sanction away every danger in matter how hard you try!

You know that LaHood is a hyper-regulatory loon, right? He has suggested making cellphone use while driving a FEDERAL CRIME. Wanna see eating or drinking coffee while you drive made against the law? How about talking with your passengers -- the leading cause of "distracted driving" accidents? Don't praise this nanny-state nutjob. (Or cite horrible texting-while-driving anecdotes. Yes, it's awful. It is not an issue for federal regulation.)

Let's see, it takes an average of six steps to tune to HD Radio stations on Sync-type systems.

PLEASE, Government, regulate drivers' use of dangerous functions. Please protect me and my loved ones from anal idiots that cannot stay away from social media when OTHERS lives are at stake.
