Whenever I hear someone on air, whether television or radio, say something like, "Good evening everyone", then they are not talking to me, but to everyone else. Of course one would hope that there is a larger audience, but I prefer someone appearing to be talking to me rather than the masses. It makes it personal. It makes a connection. It makes a friend. A group of friends is better than a gang of fickle button pushers. One to one is a better choice.

Jock's comments, while appreciated and noted, are also representative of The Right Reverend Radio's in that they repeat Dogma, draw unsubstantiated conclusions and attempt to belittle if not demonize the contrarian messenger.

I repeat: there is no evidence that a broadcaster is speaking to, has connected to or is purposely and positively influencing any one particular listener... without jeopardizing the personal, subjective experiences of many, many other listeners.

Another way of putting it: That's narrow-casting... and at the expense of a broad-cast audience.

Blather. Come on Ronald. Radio is a PERSONAL medium. We talk directly to the invidual. If you aren't, you are not reaching your audience. Which radio station are you using your theories on these days? Any at all? If so, is it a competitive station, or just another spot on the dial that your nameless, faceless, personality-less staff inhabits until the ends of their shifts? Pfffft.
