This is a great treatment of the subject. In a small station, if the programming is automated and the front door locks automatically behind you (because, say, it is always locked for security reasons), it is so easy for the last one out the door to not realize there's "nobody home." Had it happen. Had to start reminding the key people to check whether they were the only one there, and if so, DON'T LEAVE!

Agreed that this was an unusual situation in that there was an "always locked" door and security entrance at a small station, but I reckon there are others.

While I've often thought the FCC is a little out of touch about how we can program and control a licensed radio station securely from almost anywhere, it is probably a good thing that there is something requiring a physical "anchor" of a radio station to its community, else radio becomes a "fly-by-night" business.

Being able to originate programming continuously at your outlier or LMA main studio must also mean there is an EAS encoder/decoder there or operable by remote control from there, correct?

I think the last paragraph in this article tells you all you need to know about why radio stinks to high heaven these days.

If you think of your station is just an MP3 player that runs commercials, then you deserve not only a fine from "Cousin Charlie," but probably a public flogging.
