(9/24/2001) Howard Stern Fund Raises $1 Million In One Day For Families Of World Trade Center Disaster. Shock jock Howard Stern started a fund to help the families of New York police officers and firefighters who perished in the rubble of the Twin Towers in New York City. After one day of having an 800 number accepting donations, Stern raised more than $1 million. "If you love the show, trust us on this one," Stern told his audience this morning.
