(8/31/2001) The Legendary Dale Van Horn Passes Away.
The deep voice of Dale Van Horn was silenced Thursday morning when he passed away at the age of 53 of congestive heart failure. Van Horn was probably best known for his work on heritage Top 40 station WKIX of Raleigh. He also had served as program director for sister station WQDR 94.7 FM and most recently working for WKXU 101.1 FM -- a country station using the "KIX" moniker. Van Horn was born in Valdese near Morganton and went to the Governor Morehead School for the Blind and eventually graduated from NC State. He loved country and beach music, and wrote songs for and played in Ronnie Milsap's band. A memorial fund is being established in his name. Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at the Apex Methodist Church, 100 S. Hughes Street, Apex, NC.

Thanks to Mike Fenly of WSJS/WSML for the notice.
