(10/25/2000) El Mundo Fined For Airing Call Without Consent. The FCC dished out a $6,000 fine on WKAQ-AM/San Juan. Luis Francisco Ojeda recorded a call to Bernardo Vasquez-Santos, legal counsel to Puerto Rico's governor, to ask about Vasquez-Santos' alleged use of an office fax machine to send party invitations. Vasquez-Santos was unaware the conversation was being recorded, but El Mundo broadcast portions of the conversation over four stations. El Mundo admitted it recorded the interview without Vasquez-Santos' knowledge, but argued he should have known the interview would be broadcast since Ojeda is well-known for reporting government matters.
