Toldeo Talk Show Host Suspended for Stupid Comments
WSPD-AM talk show host Scott Sloan was suspended without pay for a week because of comments regarding Jessee Jackson and his intervention in the Illinois school controversy. During his show two weeks ago Scott had indicated that Jackson wanted to be assasinated so he would be a martyr like Martin Luther King. Sloan called the Lorraine Motel in Miami (King was killed at the Lorraine in Memphis) and inquired if they had balconies. When they said they did, Sloan reportedly commented "all we need now is a shooter." Local black leaders and pastors protested loudly to the management of Clear Channel and today Sloan was suspended. The local President of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Toledo, Rev. Rudolph Sutton, had demanded that the station fire Sloan...Sutton reportedly was unhappy that it was just a suspension.
