iBiquity Cites 'Momentum' For HD Automaker Deals
COLUMBIA, MD -- August 20, 2008: Following last month's break of the $100 price barrier, HD Radio equipment continues to be in demand from automakers, dealers and retailers, HD developer iBiquity Digital Corp. said.
"The number of automakers announcing HD Radio receiver installations at the factory continues to grow. Complementing that success, aftermarket retailers are increasing their commitment to the technology as additional products come to market," said iBiquity President/CEO Robert Struble. "In short, we're at an inflection point. HD Radio automotive offerings abound and are widely available for vehicles at all levels."
Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and Ford/Lincoln/Mercury have each announced recent deals to offer HD Radio to its customers. Hyundai Motor America and Mercedes-Benz will begin installing receivers in select 2009 models at the factory. At the dealer level, Ford Motor Company has initiated an HD Radio receiver upgrade program allowing users to control the HD Radio tuner directly from the factory radio.
Mobile HD Radio products are gaining ground in the retail segment, including Alpine, Boss, Dice, Dual, Insignia, Jensen, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony, and Visteon.
