Cox Enterprises Offers Journalism Scholarships
CHICAGO -- July 23, 2008: Cox Radio parent Cox Enterprises announced at the 2008 Unity Journalism Convention Wednesday that the James M. Cox Foundation is awarding $50,000 in scholarships to support minority journalism students.
The scholarships will be managed by the Asian American Journalism Association, the National Association of Black Journalists, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the Native American Journalists Association, and the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association.
The scholarships are available to minority students who are pursuing careers in print, digital broadcast, or photo journalism.
Cox Enterprises EVP/Administration Tim Hughes said, "Cox has long been committed to educating, recruiting and retaining the best and most diverse news professionals. As journalism evolves with new formats and technologies, we intend for these scholarships to help ensure that newsrooms continue to reflect and include diverse viewpoints and experiences."
In addition to the scholarships, Cox Enterprises is co-sponsoring Unity's Career Resource Center, sending staff from its radio, television, and newspaper operations to counsel journalists and students and critique amples fo their work.
