Chrysler Offers In-Car WiFi
AUBURN HILLS, MI -- June 26, 2008: Chrysler is bringing the Internet into the car with uconnect web, which, said the automaker, "transforms the vehicle into a 'hot spot' to deliver the Internet directly to the vehicle, for instant access to websites, e-mail, personalized music, online gaming, photo albums, and more."
"We set out to connect consumers to the things that matter most to them," said Chrysler VP/Chief Marketing Officer Deborah Meyer. "The role for uconnect in the 2009 model year places the focus on the customer experience and how the features will make their life easier."
Uconnect web will be offered as an aftermarket option in Chrysler, Dodger, and Jeep vehicles. And, for the convenience of passengers, it will work in moving cars, though Chrysler reportedly plans to discourage customers from checking e-mail and surfing the Web as they drive.
Chrysler has been using the uconnect name for its hands-free Bluetooth phone system, and it's now extended the brand to a number of other optional offerings, including uconnect tunes, with a 30-gigabyte hard drive for music, movies, and photos; GPS navigation under the uconnect brand; and uconnect studios, with Sirius Backseat TV video and optional Sirius Satellite Radio.
