WOGL's Big Ron O'Brien Dies

PHILADELPHIA -- April 28, 2008: Big Ron O'Brien, afternoon driver at CBS Radio's Classic Hit WOGL/Philadelphia, has died of complications from pneumonia at age 56. O'Brien had been ill and off the air since the end of March.

O'Brien began his career as a Top 40 personality at KUDL in Kansas City and later worked at such stations as KTLK/Denver, WQXI/Atlanta, and WCFL/Chicago. He spent time in Philadelphia in the '70s, at WFIL during its Top 40 days, and later worked at KFI and KIIS-FM in Los Angeles. He returned to Philly on WOGL in 2002.

"I never knew a guy who loved being on the air as much as he did," WOGL PD Anne Gress told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "There was such joy in his voice. He was put on this earth [for] nothing other than to be on the air."

O'Brien is survived by his mother; funeral arrangements are pending.
