SBS Launches All-News Station
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO -- February 22, 2008: Spanish Broadcasting System at 5:30 a.m. on Monday, February 25, will flip WCMA-FM/San Juan from Spanish AC (Romance 96.5) to RED 96 (Noticias FM, or News FM). SBS is heralding the station as the first Spanish FM radio outlet to air a 24-hour News format.
"I am proud to be a part of this historic event, and believe this is the opportune time to launch such an important project for Latinos in the United States and Puerto Rico," said Carlos "Topy" Mamery, SVP/GM of SBS/Puerto Rico.
In addition to a local news staff, the station will feature regular news updates from correspondents in several U.S. cities, including San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and Miami.
SBS operates a five-station cluster in the San Juan market.
