Cuts Come To CBS Radio
NEW YORK -- February 7, 2008: CBS Radio is cutting down its work force in several markets. The company hasn't confirmed the names or positions eliminated, but said in a statement, "With these actions, we continue to build on the strategy of deploying our assets to best grow our ratings and monetize the results."
Since Dan Mason arrived as President/CEO, CBS Radio has overhauled its management structure, with Mason and EVP/Operations Scott Herman taking direct oversight of the company's stations. Regional management positions were eliminated, and the company put market managers and directors of sales in place in all of its markets.
CBS Radio said Thursday that "this change in operating structure has improved the way we do business by simplifying buying and selling transaction, speeding up the decisionmaking process, and, importantly, allowing us to more effectively monetize the aggregate number of listeners who hear us on radio and the Internet."
Among those affected: The Chicago Sun-Times reports that WRXT-FM/Chicago VP/GM Michael Damsky's position has been eliminated, and KKJJ/Las Vegas PD/MD Craig Powers is reportedly also out. Also on the beach: in New York, WCBS-AM PD Crys Quimby, WXRK PD Tracy Cloherty, and WWFS PD Rick Martini; KVIL-FM/Dallas PD Charlie Connolly; and WDOK-FM/Cleveland PD Scott Miller.
