WABB’s Dittman Dead At 79 WABB AM/FM owner Bernie Dittman has passed away at age 79. WABB’s website reports that Dittman died after a short but serious illness.
Dittman purchased WABB-AM in Mobile in 1959. WABB had first signed on in 1948 and its call letters stand for “Alabama's Best Broadcasters.'' WABB-FM was added to Dittman’s roster in 1973.
Dittman Broadcasting will remain local as daughter Betsey Dittman will relocate from Chicago to Mobile to assume the operations of the company.
Dittman is survived by his wife, Judy, and three daughters, Betsey, Stephanie and Marsha. Funeral arrangements are still pending.
