Veteran Newsman/Broadcaster Pye Chamberlayne Dies

Longtime newspaper and broadcast reporter Pye Chamberlayne, who during his career covered Congress and the White House, has passed away at his home in rural Virginia, outside Washington.

Chamberlayne was born in 1938, and during his career, he served as news editor of the Paris edition of the New York Herald Tribune. He moved back to the US in 1962, joining UPI in Washington. There he worked mainly as a radio correspondent, covering the White House for several years before taking over the Congressional beat reporting on politics.

Chamberlayne, who retired in 1999, is survived by his wife, a son serving in Iraq and his daughter-in-law.
