Journal Radio Revenues Up
Journal Communications announced Tuesday morning that Q3 radio revenue rose 4.7%, from $21.9 million to $23 million, while radio operating income increased 18.9%, from $6.2 million to $7.4 million. Political advertising accounted for $400,000 of total Q3 radio revenue.
Factoring in the company's television stations, revenue for Journal's broadcasting segment increased 43.8%, from $40.5 million to $58.3 million. Broadcasting operating earnings more than doubled, from $7.2 million to $15.1 million.
For the month of September, radio revenue rose 2.8%, from $9.19 million to $9.45 thanks to increases in the national, political and developmental advertising categories. Revenue from political and issue advertising was $210,000 for the month. Factoring in Journal's television operations, broadcasting revenue increased 39.7%, from $17.4 million to $24.3 million.
