Guthrie Celebrates 50 Years At WOAI San Antonio Bob Guthrie, morning news anchor at WOAI San Antonio, is celebrating his 50th anniversary on-air at the station this week.
Guthrie joined WOAI in June of 1956 while on duty in the United States Army at Fort Sam Houston. During his time at Fort Sam, Guthrie worked nights and weekends as an announcer for WOAI-AM and WOAI-Television before becoming a news anchor.
WOAI PD Nate Lundy said, “The people of San Antonio and South Texas have had the chance to spend part of their day with Bob Guthrie for five decades. It’s an amazing milestone for anyone in any business, but especially ours.”
ABC Radio’s Paul Harvey added, “It’s amazing to have a career in this business span five decades. And even more amazing to think that it has all been right here at WOAI. So many of us in this business…stumble into it accidentally. But radio is like a virus that gets into your blood and becomes a passion. The radio world, and San Antonio, are better because of his passion.”
