National Radio Hall of Fame and Museum Inducts Class of 2004
The National Radio Hall of Fame and Museum inducted five legendary broadcasters – Bob Edwards, Larry Lujack, Dick Purtan, L. Lowry Mays and the late Walter Winchell – during a gala celebration Saturday, November 6, in Chicago, according to Museum president Bruce DuMont.
The National Radio Hall of Fame and Museum, a part of the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago, also announced it has raised half of the funds needed to build their new $18-million museum in downtown Chicago. The new museum's public program venue will be named the "Angel Harvey Center" in appreciation of her more than two million dollars in contributions over the years, said DuMont.
The National Radio Hall of Fame and Museum in the Museum of Broadcast Communications will be located at State and Kinzie Streets in downtown Chicago. The 70,000 square foot museum will include radio and television studios, exhibition galleries, a cafe and gift shop, and over 70,000 hours of historic programming. The museum will examine the role of radio and television in American culture. The new museum is scheduled to re-open in the spring of 2006.
