Legendary DJ Bill Randle Dies
Legendary Cleveland disk jockey Bill Randle, who was instrumental in introducing Elvis Presley to the American music scene, has died at the age of 81. WRMR-AM said his last show, which had been prerecorded, was broadcast Sunday along with a memorial program.

Randle is credited with bringing Presley to American radio, and over the years he helped the careers of dozens of other stars, including Tony Bennett, Bobby Darin, Rosemary Clooney, Johnnie Ray and Fats Domino. Randle arranged a 1955 Cleveland performance for Presley with headliners Pat Boone and Bill Haley and the Comets. The two concerts, only Presley's second gig in the north, became part of rock lore because they were filmed for a Universal short titled "The Pied Piper of Cleveland," which was about Randle.

He is survived by his daughter, Pat, and his sister, Ruth Edwards. His wife of 51 years, Annalee, died in 2000.
