Emmis Updates NextRadio Numbers
A new blog posting from the Emmis Tagstation team states that the NextRadio app has now been downloaded 40,000 times, is up to 12,000 hours of radio listening, and has an 84 percent retention rate. Last Friday, Samsung Galaxy Note launched with the app and "caused a marked jump in downloads, getting thousands of new activations in the first weekend of launch," according to Emmis. Over the next month, a handful of additional phones will be released with the app.

In case anyone is wondering, these are terrible numbers. 40,000 downloads is a tiny, tiny amount given that it is bundled in the phones.
This is going to be a very tough slog for sure.

Radio reaches 93% of the population.
The population is 314 million people.
292 million people reached by radio.
1 month into this new consumer feature there are 40,000 downloads and 12,000 hours of listening.
Are these stats then reason for optimism?
