(AUDIO) Why Is Consumer Watchdog Trying To Stop Westwood/Cumulus Merger?
By now, you may have already read about the Cumulus/Westwood One merger letter that was sent to the Department of Justice from the group Consumer Watchdog. The group contends the merger would fully corporatize radio in top 100 markets. And that if allowed, the group says, the merger would "create a clear radio duopoly (with Clear Channel Communications) in the nation’s largest radio markets."
Despite the fact that consumers now have more audio choices than ever before, Consumer Watchdog President Jamie Court said, “This merger would be a tipping point for listeners who already face fewer choices and homogenized content in talk, music, and even sports. A takeover of Dial Global by Cumulus will fully corporatize content in the top 100 markets and kill what remains of truly local radio." We spoke to Judy Dugan from the organization to see why they believe this merger should be stopped. LISTEN TO OUR INTERVIEW HERE
