Tribe Uses Radio To Hit Redskins
An American Indian tribe in upstate New York is launching a radio campaign asking the Washington Redskins to ditch the Redskins name which they say is offensive. The Oneida Indian Nation plans to run ads on stations in Washington before the team hosts the Eagles Monday night. So far we know of at least one cluster in DC that has received the order from the tribe, CBS.
Redskins owner Dan Snyder has said publicly he will never change the name. The ad asks NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to denounce the racial slur and stand up to bigotry.

Bear Bryant s birthday should be honored nationwide. America still celebrates Christopher Columbus birthday, and he didn t win any national titles the last time I checked. Bear, on the the other hand, won six.

We don't have any teams called the blackskins, the whiteskins, the yellowskins, or the brownskins. Everyone would be outraged at that. So doesn't it make sense the name redskins would define a human being by the color of their skin and should not be used. There are no tribes called redskins. Most people don't think this subtle racism is a big deal.
Radio will soon profit by the Ad buy and get everyone talking. Radio is good for that.

Is this not an example of how iconic images/names become a representation of more than the content even applies. It's a football team - a business, fer cryin' out loud.
Change the freakin' name and logo and build on that.
I'm thinkin' "The Washington Polarizers".
Could work - and it certainly is consistent with what's going on in that town.
