Is The Arbitron-To-Nielsen Deal About To Close?
Nielsen executives were supposed to get a sense of where the FTC stood on the Arbitron deal late last month. In a short press release issued Friday afternoon, Nielsen says it has agreed to extend the period for regulatory review of the Arbitron deal into September. That could be a sign the $1.26 billion deal is about to pass the government review. The Nielsen statement said, "The regulatory process continues to progress and Nielsen continues to be confident in the ultimate outcome." Nielsen is on the hook for a break-up fee of $131 million if the Arbitron deal is blocked.
