Community Broadcasters Grows in Upstate NY


Community Broadcasters run by Jim Leven and Bruce Mittman and backed by Northwood Ventures is purchasing seven stations from Barry Drake's Backyard Broadcasting, five in Elmira/Corning and two in Olean. With the purchase, Community Broadcasters grows to 15 stations in upstate New York. They also have stations in Watertown and Ogdensburg. The price of the deal was not released. Kalil & Co. brokered the deal.

The Elmira-Corning stations in the deal are: WNKI-FM-106.1, WNGZ-FM, WPGI-FM, WWLZ-AM, WRCE-AM. In Olean, Community Broadcasters will pick up WPIG-FM, WHDL-AM.

When the sale is approved by the FCC and closes Backyard Broadcasting will be down to two markets, Williamsport and Muncie.
