Brown Now Running Dial Global

Back in November, Dial Global's Spencer Brown (pictured) told Radio Ink 2012 was a tough year. The company was dealing with the announcement it would be delisting from NASDAQ and TRN CEO said he would be filing a lawsuit against DG.  Sometimes change at the top is needed when a company goes through a rough patch and that's exactly what Dial Global did yesterday, deciding three people running the company no longer worked. Brown becomes the lone CEO, Ken Williams now reports to Brown as President and David Landau resigned.

The unusual structure of having three people

run a company was in place at Dial Global for ten years and was a question we asked them in a 2012 cover story. Landau said, "A lot of people ask us that question. I would say Spencer has an MBA and hes a lawyer. I would say that hes also the de facto COO of the company. Hes our Johnny Bench, sitting behind home plate. Kenny is very involved in the systems, programming, and our digital platforms. I am very involved in the marketing and branding and sales of the organization." Brown said the reason it worked was because of the chemistry the three men had. That chemistry worked at Dial Global for a decade before the announced change yesterday.

Brown told Radio Ink yesterday, "We will certainly miss having David around on a day-to-day basis, but he remains a meaningful shareholder and strong supporter of the company. I am excited to lead Dial Global through its next stage of growth. We have a terrific platform that features some of the industry's most coveted audio content across sports, music and entertainment, and news/talk as well as 24x7 formats and other programs and services.  Perhaps more importantly, we have a highly experienced and passionate team committed to deliver tangible value every day of the week to our advertising clients and station affiliates. I look forward to continuing to build a very unique and dynamic media company."
