Gartner: Mobile Ad Revenue Will Hit $11.4 Billion In 2013

A report from Gartner is consistent with what we've been reporting from eMarketer and other digital research firms, that mobile ad revenue will continue to grow over the next five years. Gartner says worldwide mobile advertising revenue is forecast to reach $11.4 billion in 2013, up from $9.6 billion in 2012, and hit $24.5 billion in 2016. The report says the mobile revenue increase is being fueled by advertisers bolting from newspapers.

Gartner research director Stephanie Baghdassarian says, "The mobile advertising market took off even faster than we expected due to an increased uptake in smartphones and tablets, as well as the merger of consumer behaviors on computers and mobile devices. Growth in mobile advertising comes in part at the expense of print formats, especially local newspapers, which currently face much lower ad yields as a result of mobile publishing initiatives."
