NAB Favors Rolling Back Cross Ownership

11-30-2012

NAB CEO Gordon Smith, appearing on the Jim Bohannon show agree it is time to rethink cross-ownership. The FCC has proposed eliminating cross-ownership of radio and newspaper and Television and newspaper and rolling back the TV newspaper cross-ownership restriction in the Top 20 markets.

Smith told Bonannon, "there's concern out there about the survivability of hard journalism" because of the onslaught of information the Internet now provides. Smith said, "We don't think the rules should be totally eliminated. But we think the rules were developed in the days of "I Love Lucy" and are completely antiquated for the purposes of today's marketplace of information."
