BBC Executive Steps Down After 55 Days

11-12-2012

George Entwistle has resigned from The British Broadcasting Corporation over the mishandling of two sex-abuse reports. The resignation comes on the heels of a "Newsnight" report claiming 70-year-old Alistair McAlpine, the former House of Lords was a pedophile. McAlpine was not allowed to respond the the allegations. As it turns out, the accuser wound up saying, after seeing a photo of McAlpine, that he identified the wrong man.

This comes on the heels of allegations that the BBC covered up accusations against one of its most famous television personalities of sexually abusing girls. Those  accusations against the late Jimmy Savile were from the 1960s and 1970s, when he hosted the BBC shows "Top of the Pops" and "Jim'll Fix It."
