Orlando a Big Test For Sports Format

Today, Cox owned WDBO-AM officially flips to sports giving Orlando its 4th sports-talk station. In a market with 1.5 million people, Orlando is ranked 34th by Arbitron. Plus it is home to only one professional sports franchise, the Orlando Magic of the NBA. The City will certainly test just how many sports-talk outlets in one market can produce ratings and survive.

In addition to the ESPN affiliate, three other AM signals cover sports. 740-AM (WYGM) is a Fox Sports Affiliate, 810-AM (WRSO) is a Yahoo Sports affiliate and 1080-AM (WHOO), also known as Sports Talk Florida is owned by Genessis Communications.

The ESPN 580 AM lineup will include "Mike & Mike in the Morning" from 6 to 10 a.m., "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and "SVP & Russillo" from 1 to 4 p.m. The new ESPN affiliate also has plans to utilize the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex on the grounds of Walt Disney World.
