Rush Leaves Clear Channel Atlanta. Jumps To WSB

In anticipation of a format flip at Clear Channel's WGST in Atlanta, Cox Media's News/Talk powerhouse WSB is picking up the most-listened-to talk show host in America. Rush Limbaugh debuts on WSB Monday at noon. Why are we speculating there is a format flip to come at WGST? Why else would Premiere Radio Networks, owned by Clear Channel, allow Rush to get away to a competitor? Especially a monster like WSB. It was also announced that News/Talk WSB and Sean Hannity have entered a long-term agreement keeping WSB as his Atlanta home.
The News/Talk WSB prime-time schedule effective Oct. 1 includes:
· 4:30 – 8:30 a.m. Atlanta’s Morning News with Scott Slade
· 8:30 a.m. – Noon Neal Boortz
· Noon – 3 p.m. Rush Limbaugh
· 3 – 5 p.m. Sean Hannity
· 5 – 7 p.m. Atlanta’s Evening News with Erick Erickson

(9/27/2012 2:54:43 PM) They did the same thing in Boston, switching Limbaugh from their O&O outlet WXKS-AM 1200 to Entercom's WRKO-AM 680. WXKS-AM's signal was an issue in this instance, but it appears that at least during the daytime, WGST-AM is competitive with WSB-AM. And WSB operates a powerful FM signal that simulcasts its programming. When Clear Channel runs Premier shows on its O&Os, it gets no net revenue; when other conglomerates pick up these shows, CC does get net revenue. |
