Longtime WLS Morning Man to Undergo Brain Surgery

Don Wade, co-host, along with his wife Roma, of the WLS-FM (Chicago) morning show since August of 1989, will be off the air for at least four weeks while he receives treatment for a growth on his brain. Wade had a seizure last week and doctors discovered the growth. The surgery is to remove that growth. A statement from WLS says the duo will be off the air for at least a month

Radio Ink featured Don and Roma (which you can read HERE) back in February for celebrating 25 years together on the air. Former WLS Market Manager Michael Damsky told Radio Ink that, "Don and Roma have literally been at WLS since it went on the air as a talk station, and have anchored it ever since. The fact that they have enjoyed their greatest success in the most recent years is a testimony to the influence they have over the Chicago radio audience. They are great radio and great people."

Commenting about her husband's surgery, Roma said, "It amazes me that Don can still be the smartest guy in the room with only half his brain." Don, responded, "I think it's all the BS coming from the left that really gave me the seizure."

Bruce Wolf and Dan Proft will continue to fill in on the Don Wade and Roma program from 5-9, as have they have whenever Don and Roma have had time off over the past year. Jake Hartford and Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass will substitute for Bruce and Dan from 9-11.

You can send well-wishes to Don and Roma here:
