NRSC Adopts New RDS Guidelines

9-19-12

The National Radio Systems Committee adopts new guidelines, with recommendations for broadcasters and receiver manufacturers on the use of RDS technology.

The new "NRSC-G300 RDS Usage Guideline" focuses on select features of RDS and on using RDS for program-associated data, and includes an annex listing providers of RDS-based data services.

Additionally, the NRSC's AM and FM Analog Broadcasting Committee has reviewed and slightly revised three documents: "NRSC-1-B, NRSC AM Preemphasis/deemphasis and Broadcast Audio Transmission Bandwidth Specifications," "NRSC-2-B, Emission Limitation for AM Broadcast Transmission," and "NRSC-G100-A, Bandwidth Options for Analog AM Broadcasters."

After a final procedural review that will take about two weeks, the revised documents will be available at http://www.nrscstandards.org.
