Bill Anthony Dies at The Age of 61.

9-17-2012

Anthony, also known as Dexter Andrews, was heard on WAKV, The Memory Station, (Michigan). Jim Higgs writes on the WAKV Facebook page, "I first hired him in the early 70’s at WKMI in Kalamazoo where he was the friendly midday voice during the time of that station’s greatest success. We also worked together at Quixie in Otsego, and of course, here at WAKV." Anthony also worked at WHAM in Rochester. He was battling a serious lung infection and passed away at the age of 61.

Bill hired me at 1320 WKAP in 1980, for my first radio gig.

He was a great and good man, and a mentor. I spoke to him in late August 2012, when I heard he was not well, and I said to him, God Bless, take care, we'll speak when you are better. I never expected any different.

Little did I know the shock I would get a month after!

God rest your soul, Dex. You showed up in one of my dreams last night, which tells you that I still think of you!

Again, God bless you!

Bill hired me for my first radio gig at WKAP Allentown in 1980. He was a great and good man and a mentor. He once said to me, "I wish I had your set of pipes", but he did not need mine, he did fine on his own. Little did I realize that when I spoke to him in August 2012 that it would be our last phone conversation. I guess God needed him on Heaven radio. So be it.
God rest your soul, Bill. Regards Lou Betti ("Jay Scott" at WKAP)

I enjoyed working with Bill at WKZO and I especially appreciated his mastering my retirement at University Road House. He was among the warmest, most gracious operatives among my acquaintances.

Bill was a good friend and mentor during my time at WKMI. I'll always remember that great voice and his sign-off songs from his favorite group The Guess Who. It's a sad day. He'll be missed.
