ESPN New York Will Play Second Fiddle to Nobody
Dave Roberts (pictured) is the General Manager of ESPN New York (98.7-FM) and he reminds everyone that despite all the publicity others are getting, ESPN continues to produce quality programming featuring all-star talent. The radio industry is only a few weeks away from hearing what CBS (with Cumulus) and NBC (with Dial Global) have to offer in terms of a national sports network. Talent poaching has already begun.
ESPN New York recently extended its contract with the MSG network to retain the broadcast rights to the Knicks and Rangers. Listen to our short interview with Roberts HERE
ESPN New York recently signed former New York Giants head coach Bill Parcells who will appear on the Michael Kay show. Joe Namath will also appear on the show. Other star sports names on ESPN New York include Mike Lupica, Stephen A. Smith and Walt "Clyde" Frazier. ESPN recently picked up an FM dial position (from Emmis) which Roberts also discusses in our interview.
ESPN is hoping to pull some listeners away from the New York City sports dominator CBS owned WFAN. WFAN is celebrating 25 years in the format this year and will be our featured story on the upcoming issue of Radio Ink Magazine. ESPN is also gearing up to launch al all Spanish language sports station.
