Dickey: Rush Issue Opportunity For Huck

3-13-2012
Cumulus CEO Lew Dickey was asked about the Rush Limbaugh situation on the company earnings call yesterday and took the question head on. Cumulus is getting ready to launch the Mike Huckabee show in a few weeks and has been touting the show as a replacement for Rush, even though Huckabee downplayed that scenario in an interview with Radio Ink.
Dickey said "the Huckabee show is more conversational and less confrontational," than Rush. Dickey also said the timing of the Rush controversy is very opportunistic for Cumulus. "We are launching Huckabee with 110 affiliates. This is very helpful to us with out new launch." Rush was off the air yesterday, a self imposed one day golfing suspension, according to guest host Mark Styn.

(3/13/2012 3:06:00 PM) Believing that Huckabee can displace Rush is nothing more than a pipe dream. Rush's success is based on his deeply rooted convictions and his ability to connect with his audience. One thing that Dickey doesn't appear to understand is that Rush's fans are quite happy with him, and are not seeking an alternative. |

(3/13/2012 10:23:59 AM) Wow! What a hit piece from Dickey and Radio Ink. Mike Huckabee can't hold Rush's jock strap. And the line where Steyn said that "Rush was off the air yesterday, a self imposed one day golfing suspension"...that was a joke by Mr. Stein. Rush was at a golf outing for charity. Nice selfserving article for Dickey and from Radio Ink. |
