Entercom's Boston Gets Creative To Fight Hunger
Last week WAAF-FM Boston hosted a "Skate the State" held a three day fundraiser to help fight hunger. WAAF personalities LB and Spaz rollerbladed across the state to raise money for The Greater Boston, Worcester County, Western Mass and New Hampshire Food Banks. The fundraiser was sponsored by McDonald’s and Digital Federal Credit Union.
LB started in Agawam, MA and skated 34 miles a day over 3 days on his way to the Zakim Bridge. Spaz began in Attleboro, MA and skated a total of 34 miles over 3 days on his way to the Zakim Bridge. Listeners were encouraged to see LB and Spaz at various stops along their respective routes and make a donation to Skate the State.
WAAF Program Director Ron Valeri said, “It’s been awhile since former #34 for the Bruins has strapped on skates to make money, so we thought we’d have Lyndon Byers “Skate the State” to make money for the benefit of area food banks. As for Spaz, well he’s never skated, so we figured what better reason to learn, than to help the hungry!”
“Everyone has a role in ending hunger here in our community, and we appreciate the generous support that WAAF and its listeners show to people who are struggling to feed their families,” said Catherine D’Amato, President and CEO of The Greater Boston Food Bank. #GBFB#. “During these difficult economic times a little compassion makes a big difference.”
The Greater Boston Food Bank #GBFB# is the largest hunger-relief organization in New England and among the largest food banks in the country. GBFB distributes more than 36.7 million pounds of food and grocery products annually to 550 member hunger-relief agencies and 30 direct service programs throughout eastern Massachusetts in a dedicated partnership to end hunger in our region. This provides meals for as many as 545,000 people a year. The Food Bank is a member of Feeding America, the nation's food bank network.
