iBiquity Tests Boosters For FM HD

November 11, 2010: HD Radio developer iBiquity Digital conducted tests of single frequency network booster technology for FM HD in the form of digital single frequency networks, and a report from iBiquity and NAB FASTROAD calls the early results "very encouraging."

The test was conducted in the Baltimore metro, where iBiquity built two SFN test stations -- a main site and a booster site -- and looked at the digital performance and at digital compatibility with the host analog signal.

After the early tests, iBiquity says its SFN booster technology "has the potential to notonly extend and FM station's HD Radio signal coverage to the protected contour, but also fill areas of compromised signal, well within the station's coverage area."
