CEA: Consumer Electronics Strong Even In Slow Recovery
June 23, 2010: Speaking at the Consumer Electronics Association's Line Shows event in New York, CEA Chief Economist Shawn DuBravac said there are good signs for the industry despite a slow economic recovery, TWICE reports.
DuBravac said the overall economy is still "mediocre at best" and the current recovery has been slow compared to past recessions. But spending in consumer electronics is still relatively strong.
"Technology has held up well," he said, compared to areas such as home furnishings and housing that have been "decimated." DuBravac said, "Part of it, I think, is that technology is being perceived as more of a necessity, as opposed to a luxury."
Looking ahead, he sees strong sales in the second half and Q1 2011 for LED TVs and 3D TVs, with Internet-connected TVs perhaps poised for growth early in 2011.
