Fastroad Report: EPG For Radio Is 'Viable'

March 5, 2010: A report funded by NAB Fastroad (Flexible Advances Services for Television & Radio on All Devices) concludes that an electronic program guide service is a "viable option for U.S. radio." The report, by BIA/Kelsey, Broadcast Signal Lab, and Unique Interactive, follows up on an earlier report that included requirements and a proposed architecture for a radio EPG service.
The Phase 2 report covers methods for transmitting EPG data over HD Radio broadcasts and over the Internet and mobile.
"We are excited to present this report to the industry and its critical recommendations for the advancement of U.S. radio broadcasting," BIA/Kelsey Chief Strategy Officer Rick Ducey said. "This Phase 2 work was a collaborative effort of many broadcasters, developers and manufacturers, including iBiquity, and our profound thanks go to all involved."
The Phase 2 testing covered on-air and online delivery of EPG data, and several modes of on-air delivery; the full report is available at www.nabfastroadorg.
