Shannon Tapped As Citadel VP/Programming

December 14, 2009: Veteran personality and programmer Scott Shannon takes a corporate post, becoming VP of programming for Citadel Broadcasting. He'll keep his long-running PD job for the company's Hot AC WPLJ/New York and will continue to program the syndicated True Oldies Channel format.
"Scott is one of the preeminent radio programming talents in the industry, and we are very fortunate to have him as part of our company," Citadel CEO Farid Suleman said. "He has been instrumental in recent successes and innovations at several of our stations as well as the network."
WABC and WPLJ President/GM Steve Borneman said, "Scott's contributions to radio are legendary, and his successes are many. He is a proven resource for us and simply the best music programmer in the industry today. During the last 12 months, we've been able to elevate WPLJ to some of its highest ratings ever, clearly positioning us as one of the leading stations in New York. I am delighted about his new position and know he will continue teach us all how it's done."
Shannon, a longtime broadcaster who's hosted shows in Atlanta, DC, Los Angeles, and New York, among other markets, will work with Citadel's major-market programmers on overall programming and content direction.

(12/16/2009 10:36:14 AM) Farid has done what all of us have known for sometime. Scott is simply a genius. Pure and simple. He helped us build WLAN-FM in Lancaster County PA in the 1990's into the pure brand CHR that it remains today with one simple step. Fix the music and attach the station to the local market. Fix it Scott, we all know you can! Best of luck, CL |
