Staff Cuts At Washington Times Won't Affect Radio Show
December 3, 2009: Staff cuts have come to the Washington Times, but that won't affect the DC paper's joint venture with Talk Radio Network, America's Morning News.
The New York Times cites a letter given to employees at "hastily announced afternoon meeting" that informed them that the paper will cut at least 40 percent of its 370 employees. The employees were also told they will keep their jobs for at least another 60 days, in compliance with notice requirements for mass layoffs at companies with more than 100 employees. The remaining staff will focus on political and investigative reporting and cultural coverage.
The paper will also soon be distributed free in some areas of Washington, with single copies for sale at newsstands and retailers and home delivery at "premium prices."
