Smith Requests Waiver For Royalties Meet

November 17, 2009: NAB President/CEO Gordon Smith has been invited by the Senate and House Judiciary Committees to appear at a November 17 discussion on the Performance Royalties Act, and has now written to Committee Chairs Sen. Patrick Leahy and Rep. John Conyers and committee members to request a Senate ethics waiver.

Smith is a two-term Senator from Oregon who left office in 2008, and the law bars former members of Congress from lobbying Congress until they've been out of office for two years. Smith writes, "There is, as I understand, an exception for communications made in the form of congressional testimony. I will need confirmation from the Senate that my participation falls within this, or some other exception."

Smith also requests an afternoon meeting time to avoid a conflict with a speaking engagement.
